Historic Scotland is slowly re-opening its sites and Dundrennan Abbey is the latest to open in Dumfries and Galloway. Also worth a drive is St Ninian’s Chapel, Isle of Whithorn (pix above) where there’s a nearby pub for a quick bite or drink after a walk around. It’s best to check the Historic Scotland page to see what is and isn’t open- and in some cases booking is essential.
Please note: The beautiful Sweetheart Abbey at New Abbey is still closed as is Whithorn Priory and St Ninian’s Cave. Check Historic Scotland site for up-to-date openings.
