What else you need to know

  1. Access to Ravenstone is on an unpaved drive. While we do our best to maintain the drive, please be aware that during rainy periods there will be potholes and care must be taken when driving.
  2. There are pubs and restaurants serving food in Bladnoch, Wigtown and the Isle of Whithorn, approximately 15 minutes drive from Ravenstone.
  3. We own and operate the Ravenstone Deli (www.ravenstonedeli.com) in Whithorn which also has a traditional butchers. There is also a small general store in Whithorn and in Wigtown a small Co-op. Newton Stewart also has a Co-op and Somerfield.
  4. Mobile telephone reception can vary but most networks can be received in the vicinity. There is no payphone but we have a landline for emergencies only.

Our Cats

We have two cats, Merlin and Mitza. Merlin is very friendly and will immediately sense any possible attention giving humans. He is safe for children to play with too. Mitza is a somewhat shy female who you're more likely to see prowling through the undergrowth. Neither is allowed in the cottage so any allergy sufferers should be safe.

The Ducks

We have two ducks, Carmen, a white five-year old Pekin duck, who is actually a girl and Sidney, an Indian Runner Duck, who arrived in January 2006 as a new companion for Carmen. They can usually be seen devouring plants in our pond but also help keep the snail population down.

Our Chickens

Christmas 2007 saw the arrival of 11 hens - 5 Welsummers and 6 Marans. They are free range at the back of Keeper's Cottage and the eggs are included in the Breakfast Hamper. Eggs are also available to buy on arrival.
